This palatial building was built upon the Thames as the pay office and administrator to the largest Navy in the world from which England policed its great empire. The arched centre of the building was the main entrance to the office and courtyard. This is now a prime London landmark at the top of The Strand built by a most fated and influential architect called Sir William Chambers. It has recently become home to one of the greatest silver collections in the world - The Gilbert Collection from America. These bookends are made using British gypsum plaster which allows highly exquisite detail. Additional detail is made using thin metal leaf. Dimensions: W 33cm (13') H 20cm (8') D 6.5cm (2.5').
