Strawberries and Cream - The Science

We all know the key to delicious strawberries and cream is simple, a huge helping of plump British strawberries, a hefty dollop of fresh cream and a pitcher of Pimms on the side..

... But is it really as simple as we think it is?

Scientist's have discovered the optimum conditions for eating strawberries and cream, from the perfect fruit to cream ratio to the ultimate time elapsed before eating. So if you want to find out if you're doing your dessert justice read on to find out!

Every year spectators at Wimbledon alone get through a whopping 30 tonnes of strawberries! So what's the secret that everyone loves? Well according to research:Strawberries are best enjoyed with cream, as it enhances the taste. Howevercream actually causes strawberries to shrink at an initial rate of 1% every second! That means you have only 2 minutes and 50 seconds to enjoy the lot at optimum firmness!

 The ultimate ratio is deemed to be 70:30 strawberry to cream. That's about one tablespoon of single cream to two fresh medium strawberries.

Should you get your proportions wrong, well, too fewer strawbs and you're in danger off an overly creamy pud, too little cream and you could fall prey to unwanted tartness. Cleary it's a very delicate situation so best get your measuring jug out!
